Chapter 2: New Features in Pro Tools HD 7.4cs1 5
Soft Keys Section
(All D-Control Systems)
In the D-Control Soft Keys section, the soft keys invoked by
the Actions and Modes switches now have a new layout of
pre-existing commands, to correspond with the new arrange-
ment of the “Auto Write To” switches on D-Control.
New Actions Switch Layout
In the Automation Soft Keys section, page 2 of the Actions
switch commands now shows the Auto Write To commands
in the following order:
Wrt To All (Write to All) Writes current automation values to
an entire selection or track while performing an automation
pass.
Snap Back Causes all Latch or Write enabled tracks to exit
their current automation pass and return instantly to the pre-
viously written automation levels. During playback, this com-
mand stops writing of automation without applying any Au-
toMatch ramping.
Wrt To Start (Write To Start) Writes current automation val-
ues from the insertion point backward to the beginning of a
selection or track while performing an automation pass.
Wrt To End (Write to End) Writes current automation values
from the insertion point forward to the end of a selection or
track while performing an automation pass.
Wrt To Punch (Write To Punch Point) Writes current automa-
tion values back to the point where writing of automation be-
gan
Wrt To Next (Write to Next Breakpoint) Writes current auto-
mation values from the insertion point forward to the next
automation breakpoint while performing an automation pass.
New Modes Switch Layout
In the Automation Soft Keys section, the Modes switch now
shows the Auto Write on Stop commands in the following or-
der:
AWrtTo All (Auto Write to All on Stop) Writes current automa-
tion values to an entire selection or track when the transport
is stopped after an automation pass.
AWrtTo Start (Auto Write to Start on Stop) Automatically
writes current automation values from the insertion point
backward to the beginning of a selection or track when the
transport is stopped after an automation pass.
AWrtTo End (Auto Write to End on Stop) Writes current auto-
mation values from the insertion point forward to the end of
a selection or track when the transport is stopped after an au-
tomation pass.
AWrtTo Punch (Auto Write to Punch Point on Stop) Writes cur-
rent automation values back to where the current automation
pass began.
AWrtTo Next (Auto Write to Next Breakpoint on Stop) Writes
current automation values from the insertion point forward to
the next automation breakpoint when the transport is
stopped after an automation pass.
Dual Transport Mode
(Digidesign MachineControl with a 9-pin or MMC Device)
With Digidesign MachineControl, you can now place D-Con-
trol in Dual Transport mode, which activates the second set of
Transport controls on D-Control (in the section labeled “Ma-
chine Transport”).
Dual Transport mode assigns the upper set of transport con-
trols to a 9-pin or MMC device using MachineControl.
In Dual Transport mode, you can toggle the transport mas-
ter between “Transport=Pro Tools” and “Transport = Ma-
chine,” “Transport=MMC,” or “Transport=Remote” directly
from the D-Control Transport switches.
In Single Transport mode, you toggle the transport master
between “Transport=Pro Tools” and “Transport = Machine,”
“Transport=MMC,” or “Transport=Remote” using the Ma-
chine Online switch in the Transport Mode controls.
New D-Control Transport Mode Preference
A new D-Control Console preference lets you switch between
Single and Dual Transport modes. In the Console Preferences,
page 5 of the Operation preferences now includes the follow-
ing preference:
Transpt (D-Control Transport Mode) Toggles D-Control trans-
port operation between Dual and Single Transport modes.
Dual Transport mode activates the second set of transport
controls on D-Control, in the section labeled “Machine Trans-
port.” In Single Transport mode, only the transport controls
marked “Pro Tools Transport” are active.
To toggle D-Control between Dual Transport mode and Single
Transport mode:
1 In the Soft Keys section, press the Operation switch repeat-
edly to display the page that includes “Transpt.”
2 Press the Soft Key that corresponds to “Transpt” to toggle
the Transport mode between “Dual” and “Single.”
3 Hold Control (Windows) or Command (Mac) and press the
Operation switch to exit.
